[The last event left Cheyenne in a weird place and since then, she's been rather scarce around the village. Aside from getting food at one of the village restaurants, she's spent most of her time either in her apartment or in the forests just outside the village. Today, she's actually back to her usual spot: sitting on the edge of one of Luceti's many bridges, looking down at the water.]

[A few hours of this goes by until she finally opens her journal and poses a question to the residents. The very thing that's been on her mind all this time.]

It is not uncommon for others to ask questions using these journals, yes? [A pause. She wasn't really expecting an answer to that.]

...what do you think it means to be a "person"?

By that definition, a creature incapable of expressing or feeling love would not be a person, yes?

That depends on how broad you'd allow that definition to be. If it is a creature of hatred, then no, it is not a person. If it is capable of affection at the very least, then yes, it is. If it is simply incapable of any emotion ... [ ... ] ... Then I am not sure. It depends on the creature and its mannerisms.

It seems to be a rather complicated concept. I had not expected to receive such varied replies.

Love itself is a very complicated thing. [ ... ] Why did you ask about this? It seems like an odd choice of question.

I suppose it has been on my mind since the most recent experiment. Were you present for it?

I wasn't. I've only been here for a few weeks.

I see. It was not something I would have called an unpleasant experience, perhaps, until its end.

However, spending a week believing you have lived an entirely different life from the one who have truly lived is certainly disorientating.

... What an invasive experiment. I do feel badly for you having to go through it, but I'm not sorry I missed it.

They are not all like that, no. And I have heard that this one in particular was considered to be rather extreme.

In the weeks prior, there was an experiment in which residents were changed into various different creatures. [For a moment, there's a smile on her face, but it's fleeting.] It was not all that unpleasant.

The idea of turning into something else is a bit frightening, but it does sound interesting as well. I think I would have liked to see something like that. Even more so if I were not among those affected by it.

I have heard instances of repeat experiments, so perhaps you may yet have a chance for such an experience? At the very least, it seemed to be a harmless distraction.

Perhaps I will. It seems inappropriate to, but I am curious enough about it to look forward to seeing it happen.

I see nothing inappropriate about that. It is a far better attitude to possess as opposed to feelings of dread for what is soon to come.

That is true. In that case, I won't allow my eagerness to bother me.

Seeing as they tend to occur on a monthly basis, you shouldn't have too long a wait either. Although I suppose whether or not that is a good thing remains to be seen.

Ah. Then it won't be long until I see one of these times firsthand. [She's ... not sure how to feel about that, though. It's exciting, but if it's something bad, then ... hm. Maybe she'll change the subject.] By the way, who are you?
